Introduction
This document is part of the grid modelling approach and details the grid model data requirements for data supplied by Dutch transmission and distribution system operators and describes in detail the LimitKind .
Most of the terms in this document are used within the energy industry, particularly in standards like the IEC Common Information Model (CIM) and the ENTSO-E profiles.
Definition
Within the context of ENTSO-E and the CGMES standard, the difference between PATL, PATLT and TATL lies in how the limit is operationally applied and defined
PATL (Permanent Admissible Transmission Loading)
This is the absolute physical, thermal limit of a network component (such as an overhead line or a transformer). It represents the maximum continuous thermal or electrical loading (current or power) that the asset (such as a transmission line or transformer) can sustain indefinitely under normal, steady-state conditions without getting damaged.
System State Usage:It is primarily applied during preventive security assessments and base case (normal, pre-contingency) load flow analyses to ensure the grid operates within safe, continuous boundaries.
PATLT (Permanent Admissible Transmission Loading Threshold)
This is the operational threshold derived from or defined for the PATL. It is the specific value (expressed in engineering units like MW or Amperes) used by grid operators in calculations and monitoring systems as the actual limit for permanent loading.
Modelling choices

PATL (Permanent Admissible Transmission Limit): Continuous, normal operation.
